Inline Isolator

An optical isolator is a passive optical component that allows light to pass through in only one direction. It is a typical magneto-optical device, and its working principle is based on the magneto-optic effect. That is, when a beam of polarized light passes through a light-transmitting material placed in a magnetic field, the polarization direction of the light will rotate. The direction of rotation depends on the direction of the magnetic field, not on the direction of light propagation (it is independent of the direction of light transmission). Therefore, the rotation direction is irreversible. Fiber optic isolators, also known as Faraday isolators, utilize this characteristic. When light travels in the forward direction, it can pass through with minimal loss, but light returning in the reverse direction will be deflected by the isolator. The materials commonly used for the magneto-optic components in isolators include YIG (Yttrium Iron Garnet) and TGG (Terbium Gallium Garnet), with YIG mainly applied in the wavelength band above 1100nm, and TGG mainly applied in the wavelength band below 1100nm.
