Twin Crystal PEM

The Photoelastic Modulator (PEM) is a high-speed, large-aperture, wide-bandwidth, high-damage-threshold, and large-incidence-angle optical modulator. Its working principle is similar to that of an electro-optic modulator, controlling the change in the phase difference between the fast and slow axes, thereby controlling the polarization state of the transmitted light beam. The PEM can add a certain phase difference to linearly polarized light, causing the output light to change between states such as circular polarization, elliptical polarization, and linear polarization. At the same time, the PEM can also switch the light between left-handed and right-handed states.

The PEM offered by ModuOptic can be customized according to the operating mode and can be divided into one-dimensional and two-dimensional types. The one-dimensional PEM has only one vibration dimension and is suitable for ultraviolet, visible, and near-infrared bands; the two-dimensional PEM has two vibration dimensions, capable of achieving a wider range of phase modulation and is mainly used in the visible and infrared bands.
